alison burns joins us from our washington, d.c. newsroom with the latest on the government's efforts to keep up with technology. good morning, alison. >> reporter: good morning to you, pam. that's right. the bottom line here is that communications technology is getting so sophisticated government spies are struggling to keep up. as more people communicate on line instead of by phone the feds say their ability to wiretap criminal and terrorism suspects is going dark. so the new york times reports today that the obama administration is going to ask congress to okay legislation that will make it easier for the government to eavesdrop on internet and e-mail communications like social networking sites and blackberries. it wants all on line services technically equipped to comply with a wiretap order. now internet privacy groups say the legislation would have huge implication but the feds are pointing to a he cent high profile terror attempt they say could have been stopped much sooner. i will have more on that during my next update in a
